Hey snugglers, Emily here! As a family centered brand, we know that a lot of our Saranoni friends are parents just like we are with hopes and dreams for their kids. We also know how difficult it can be to maintain your kids’ attention!
At our house, we have a range of ages, (from grade school to college!) and everyone is busy with activities from sports to school to friends to….honestly, the list goes on and on! This is a busy season for our family. Despite my first young mom's attempts to hold long family meetings full of the wisdom I wanted to impart to my kids, I soon learned that the best way to teach my kids something they would remember was by keeping it short and sweet, and I settled on a single phrase!
“see a need and fill it”.
My kids will tell you–this is the last thing they hear as they hop out of the car or head into school in the morning–it’s that important to me!
This is a phrase that I’ve adopted in an attempt to teach my kids to be aware of people besides themselves. It’s the phrase I hope will run through their head when they eat dinner at a friend’s house and notice some extra dishes to clear. It’s the phrase I hope they remember when they notice a stranger with their hands full and no way to open the door to a building.
As a Mother, I love to imagine that this phrase has inspired my kids to look for needs beyond their own wherever they are, help others, and discover the fulfillment that kindness brings.
At the same time, this is also a phrase that we've been on the receiving end of as we've been the recipients of countless kindnesses given unselfishly by people who have seen a need in our family and filled it without a second thought--especially during Nathan's diagnosis and passing! Now more than ever, we are fueled to give back and do a good turn where we can so that we can do as we have had done to us, and fill needs wherever we see them.
May we all do better to see a need and fill it at school, at home, and in our communities! Remember–you can’t do everything for everyone everywhere, but you can do something, for someone, somewhere!
